 2018 Solar Car Challenge
Photos
In the 2018 Solar Car Challenge, the SolarCats competed in the cross-country race from Fort Worth, Texas to Palmdale, California and won 1st place in our division.

This year we had a majorily new team, the same car  which had been improved, and competed in the Classic Division once again. In these 7 days of racing, with one rest day, we covered 544.4 miles.

Through the race the car ran the best it could've run, no issues were encountered. Our biggest struggle this year was Scrutineering but through hard work we made it through. This being our second year participating in the cross-country race we used our previous experiences to our benefit.

We couldn't have been able to have this great achievement if it wasn't for the help from our sponsors, mentors, teacher and all that supported this project and this team.

 Formula E-Prix School Series

The first ever Formula E competition in the United States was held in Miami, Florida. High school teams all over Florida competed in the official course around the American Airlines Arena.

In our endeavours to participate in this challenge, we went to FAU to build and finish the E-Car first. As the sun was directly above our heads, The Solar Cats and other high school teams raced for the best efficiency, which we obtained.

As a result, we placed first in the pole position. And after a thirty-minute race, with Justyn Byrne in the driver's seat, he was able to defy the odds and place first in the competition. We had a great experience.

Thank you FPL for sponsoring this competition.

In the 2016 Solar Car Challenge, the Solar Cats competed in the cross-country race from Dallas, Texas to Twin Cities, Minnesota.

We came with a new team, a new car, but the same division - classic division. Over the course of five days, we drove a total of 472.9 miles on our route to Minnesota.

A few obstacles came along the way leading to our final ranking of 4th place. As it is our first year doing a cross country race we were able to learn from this experience. Our biggest issue was that our solar panels didn't charge as well as we tested in Florida.

In preparation for our next competition, whenever that is, we will make improvements to our current solar car.

For the 2015 Solar Car Challenge, we competed in the Classic Division.

The competition was held at the Texas Motor Speedway in which we have covered 265.5 miles over the course of 4 days.

We placed 10th place in this division and were also one of the best rookie teams for the 2015 competition.

We have learned tremendous amounts of knowledge from this experience. With the support, experience, and knowledge we have gained from competing in the challenge and other teams.

We will come back with an even better solar car for the 2016 Solar Car Challenge.
