We are the Western High School Solar Cats . This team was introduced in 2013 as a part of the STEM Academy (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). The solar car team, one of the four STEM programs, encourages students to pursue these fields in the future.

Over the 2014-2015 summer, the team put over 200 hours from 8 AM to 8 PM. We were extremely grateful to see our work pay off and be the first team in Western High to compete in the Solar Car Challenge. Although we placed 10th with a total 265.5 miles, the Solar Cats were named one of the best rookie teams.

In the 2015-2016 season, the Solar Cats have yet again engineered greatness in which a whole new car was designed and brought to life. The new car, the Solar Cat V2, competed in the summer of 2016, driving 472,9 miles from Dallas to Minneapolis.

In only a year's time, the Solar Cats improved their rank from 10th to 4th in the nation and our goal is to keep learning and improving.

This July of 2018 we will again compete in the Solar Car Challenge with our Solar Cat V2. This years race will be from Fort Worth, Texas to Palmdale, California. We are striving for an even better result and an even better learning experience.
